1. What was the design vision for Lunate offices, and what inspirations influenced the outcome?
The vision behind the design of the Lunate offices was to create a flexible and collaborative environment that encourages productivity and well-being. To accommodate both focused and team-based tasks, the office includes pods and break-out rooms, while a dedicated leisure area provides a space for relaxation. A key focus was maximising natural light within the space.
Initially influenced by the client’s brand colours, the design palette was refined throughout the project to incorporate natural tones that complemented the abundant daylight and aligned with the client’s preferences. Durable, high-end equipment was selected to balance aesthetics and functionality, achieving a professional yet dynamic atmosphere with nature-inspired elements.
2. GAJ has a distinct approach to designing spaces—how was this reflected in the Lunate offices, and what set this project apart?
At GAJ, our design approach focuses on understanding each client’s unique needs. With over 35 years of expertise in the region, our reputation and strong relationships influenced the client’s decision to work with us. This project stood out due to the hands-on experience with a smaller design team, enabling us to explore versatile and timeless design options.
The client’s clear yet minimal vision, combined with their active involvement throughout the process, played a significant role. Drawing inspiration from their brand materials, we proposed various design options to ensure the final space aligned with their goals.
3. What were the main challenges you faced during the design and construction process, and how did you overcome them?
We required several months to work closely with the client to build a design brief that achieves their new offices’ vision. Through detailed 2D and 3D plans, we helped them visualise different possibilities, leading to multiple revisions that shaped the final design.
4. How did you balance elements such as aesthetics, functionality, and employee well-being in the workspace design?
The workspace prioritised natural light, open workstations, and a bright colour palette. Employee comfort was enhanced with height-adjustable desks, greenery for well-being, and pod rooms for focused work. Smart glass technology in meeting rooms provided privacy, while writeable glass walls encouraged creativity and collaboration. Mirrored ceilings in the leisure area added visual impact, creating a balanced and engaging environment.
5. What are your key takeaways from this project, and how do you see office space design evolving in the future?
A key takeaway from this project was the client’s strong focus on employee well-being and comfort. As a result, the space was designed for flexibility, with adaptable equipment and layouts to meet future needs.
Looking ahead, we foresee more companies prioritising well-being in their office designs. This approach was so impactful that employees described it as the best workspace they have ever had.
